Salary range: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $90,500-$95,100. POSITION DESCRIPTION

At UC San Diego, we are seeking a Project Scientist to join our research team, in the NanoEngineering Department within the Jacobs School of Engineering. These roles are crucial for individuals who wish to contribute significantly to research projects without the expectation of leading the team or conducting independent research.

Project Scientist will:

  1. Make creative contributions to the research team.
  2. Publish and conduct research under the supervision of a Professor or Professional Research series member.
  3. Potentially serve as Co-Principal Investigators, though not as Principal Investigators. It is important to note that this position do not mandate independent research or the development of an independent research reputation. Also, while university and public service are valued, they are not compulsory, and there are no formal teaching responsibilities. The duration of each appointment is subject to the research project's timeline and the availability of funds.

This project scientist position will primarily work on the material design and processing design for characterizing Li-S batteries. Therefore, the candidates must have earned their Ph.D. degree in nanoengineering, materials science or a related area. Successful candidates should have experience in research and development in energy storage and conversion materials/devices, especially in:

  1. liquid- and solid-state Lithium-Sulfur Batteries fabrication;
  2. Comprehensive knowledge about energy conversion storage devices;
  3. Semiconductor/cathode materials preparation experience, including but not limited to casting, sintering, heat treatment and spin-coating;
  4. Especially required the experience in material characterizations, including but not limited to FIB, (S)TEM, XPS, IR and Raman testing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

This project scientist position will primarily work on the material design and processing design for characterizing Li-S batteries. Therefore, the candidates must have earned their Ph.D. degree in nanoengineering, materials science or a related area at the time of application, and at least 3 year of post-doctoral experience.. Successful candidates should have experience in research and development in energy storage and conversion materials/devices, especially in:

  1. liquid- and solid-state Lithium-Sulfur Batteries fabrication;
  2. Comprehensive knowledge about energy conversion storage devices;
  3. Semiconductor/cathode materials preparation experience, including but not limited to casting, sintering, heat treatment and spin-coating;

Preferred qualifications

Current UCSD Postdoctoral or equivalent experience, and commitment to mentoring and research and service to build an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
