As we reach the end of a year of unprecedented growth in the UC San Diego Department of NanoEngineering, we take some time to reflect on the highlights of 2015.

Congratulations to Mr. Jonathan Monk (Systems Biology Research Group), who recently received his Ph.D in Chemical Engineering. His defense on "Comparative Analysis of Microbial Pathogens Using Systems Biology" was presented on December 10, 2015. Mr.

As a finalist of the Falling Wall Young Innovator of the Year 2015, Mr. Jinxing Li presented his research "Breaking the Wall of Robot Miniaturization" at Falling Walls Lab in Berlin. He was also awarded an A.T.

Congratulations to Mr. Adam Printz (The Lipomi Research Group), who recently received his Ph.D in NanoEngineering. His defense on "Understanding and Improving the Mechanical Stability of Semiconducting Polymers for Flexible and Stretchable Electronics" was presented on November 16, 2015. Mr.

His defense on "Tailoring Nanoscale Properties to Enable Advanced Energy Storage Materials" was presented on September 9, 2015. Mr. Verde has been with the Department of NanoEngineering since Fall 2010. The department is very proud of his achievement!

From Cebu, Philippines, chemical engineering student Regina Caluya has focused her education and career towards making a strong social impact through science and engineering.

Congratulations to Amay Bandodkar, graduate student from Joe Wang's lab, who has been selected as a Seibel Scholar in recognition of his academic excellence and demonstrated leadership.

Congratulations to Mr. Kolin Hribar (Chen Laboratory), who recently received his Ph.D in NanoEngineering. His defense on "Light-Assisted Biopatterning of Hydrogels for Investigating Cell Interactions with their Microenvironment" was presented on July 20, 2015. Mr.

Congratulations to Professor Shirley Meng for being awarded as one of the 4 winners of the 2015 Qualcomm Fellow-Mentor-Advisor (FMA) Fellowship, for the proposal titled, "Making the Invisible Visible: Diagnosing Atomic Level Defects in 10nm FinFET Transistors".

Jinxing Li took 3rd Place in Falling Wall Lab San Diego, a Germany TED event, on last Saturday by "Breaking the Wall of Robot Miniaturization".  It is the first SoCal event of Falling Wall Lab with competition from all young innovators from SoCal (SD, LA, SB...).

Deepest congratulations to Suchol for winning the Kaplan Dissertation Year Fellowship for the 2015-2016 academic year. Only ONE of these awards is given on the entire campus per year!

Congratulations to Jinxing Li and faculty advisors Joseph Wang and Liangfang Zhang for winning NE Best Poster and the Rudee Outstanding Poster entitled ARTIFICIAL MICROMOTORS IN THE MOUSE'S STOMACH: A STEP TOWARD IN VIVO USE OF BIOMEDICAL MICRO-ROBOTS.

Congratulations to Jinxing Li with Prof. Wang's lab group and Suchol Savagatrup with Prof. Lipomi's lab for receiving this award at the MRS Conference held in San Francisco last week. 

Her defense on "Understanding the Surface and Interface Properties of Electrode Materials in Alkali-Ion Batteries" was presented on March 10, 2015. Ms. Qian has been with the Department of NanoEngineering since Fall 2010. The department is very proud of her achievement! 

Amay Bandodkar receives $500 in recognition of his participation and exceptional presentation in the Interdisciplinary Research Awards on February 24, 2015 award presented by U.C. San Diego Graduate Division.

Neil Gandhi is a 2nd year student from the Nanoengineering department and is a Gordon Scholar and recipient of the Engineering Leadership Award from the Gordon Engineering Leadership Center.

A paper "3D optical printing of piezoelectric nanoparticle-polymer" by  K. Kim, W. Zhu,  S.C. Chen, and D. Sirbuly,  has been selected for the SPIE Applications of 3D Printing Best Paper Award.
